Hawthorn blossom is also known
as 'May Blossom'; it blooms in the month of May. The well known
Scottish aphorism 'Ne'er cast a clout till May be oot' is derived
from this fact.It was generally greeted with frustrated derision
by children who were prevented from stripping off and running
barefoot at the first hint of warmth after winter. Defying the
edict usually resulted in a heavy cold. Some years blossom is
more prolific than others and in the spring of 1998 the May blossom
was spectacular.
