From a cafe window looking across
the main shopping thoroughfare in Glasgow's West End. A very different
population from Glasgow's East End as portrayed in works such as
'We're Still Here' and
'The Barras'. West End inhabitants
are a very broad mix of social class, race and status.
Celebrity spotting is a popular
diversion as it is here that local and internationally famous faces
can be encountered as they shop or dine in the area. The atmosphere
is predominantly youthful as Glasgow University students and others
reside here in great numbers. The 'Boyd Orr' building on the university
campus can be seen in the centre of the painting.
