The Arran paintings run concurrently with the Glasgow work and are executed in the same style but with a quite different intention. The Glasgow paintings are objective studies of central Glasgow life. west end and east end mostly. The Arran paintings are subjective, based on the artists memory and emotional response to her life there.

Windows in The West™

The Glasgow paintings started in 1982 with a painting done as a thank you gift for a friend entitled, ‘Magic Mushroom City’, the last ‘Bedsits’ was painted early in 2003.

From the start of her career Avril Paton admired the work of abstract artists, one of her favourite being fellow Scot Alan Davie. In the late 90's she began to concentrate principally on 'abstraction' and continues to do so.
